Sri Lanka bans ethanol import

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: Sri Lanka has banned the import of ethanol from 1 March 2013, using import and export control laws. The customs office said un-denatured ethyl alcohol of 80 per cent strength and denatured spirits have been prohibited. Last year Sri Lanka expropriated two sugar privately held sugar mills which produced ethanol and 550 million rupees of people’s tax money was used to keep them afloat.
