Having an upper hand with automation

In an interview, Steven Gimre with Chemical Today Magazine talks about how automation solutions can be a game changer for refineries by keeping a check on unplanned downtime, human errors and equipment failures.

Automation solutions in Indian oil & gas sector.

A big problem with refineries is the issue of unplanned downtime. Almost all refineries face the issue of unplanned downtime. This unplanned downtime might be due to an equipment failure. There is a piece of equipment that shuts down for some reason. The refiner might have to shut the unit down to resolve the equipment issue and then restart operations. This leads to waste of time and could affect production in the long run. It could be operator error or human error. There are many times an operator might unknowingly take a step that could lead to, in-turn some other issue. These are the two major issues that refiners can help solve using the automation solutions.

Our solutions can help the oil & gas companies in a big way. The sensors installed in the plant will be sending continuous signals and data. This can be one of the ways in which unplanned shutdowns can be reduced.

Many of the oil & gas majors in India are revamping/upgrading and modernising their operations to meet the BS norms by 2020. This provides immense potential in the country.
