Cetrimide is the compound with antiseptic properties, and chemically it is a quaternary ammonium salt. As cetrimide is an antiseptic agent, retains various antifungal, antibacterial, and other antimicrobial properties. It can be used in shampoo for the treatment of a certain type of dermatitis to kill some bacteria, fungi, and viruses on the skin of the scalp.
Iodine occurs mainly as a diatomic molecule I2, not the atom. In nature, iodine is a relatively rare element, ranking 47th in abundance. It is the heaviest essential element utilized widely by life in biological functions. As a component of thyroid hormones, iodine is required by higher animals. Iodine and its compounds are primarily used in nutrition, the production of acetic acid and polymers. Iodine's relatively high atomic number, low toxicity, and ease of attachment to organic compounds have made it a part of many X-ray contrast materials in modern medicine. The major application of iodine is as a co-catalyst for the production of acetic acid by the Monsanto and Cativa processes. The production of ethylenediammonium diiodide (EDDI) consumes a large fraction of available iodine. EDDI is provided to livestock as a nutritional supplement. Elemental iodine is used as a disinfectant in various forms.
QuatVet is quaternary Ammonium based disinfectant and used for disinfection of poultry and livestock farms, particularly effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and enveloped viruses.
BioClean is used in disinfections applications particularly in poultry and livestock farms, hospitals, veterinary clinics, hatcheries and slaughterhouses.
PhenoBlack is a general disinfectants of bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal activity for use in poultry and livestock farms, zoos, hatcheries, slaughterhouses and boot dips.
Proflavine is an acriflavine derivative, a disinfectant bacteriostatic against many gram-positive bacteria. It has been used in the form of the dihydrochloride and hemisulfate salts as a topical antiseptic, and was formerly used as a urinary antiseptic.Proflavine acts by interchelating DNA (intercalation), thereby disrupting DNA synthesis and leading to high levels of mutation in the copied DNA strands, there by it prevents bacterial reproduction.
Chlorhexidine is a chemical antiseptic. It is effective on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, although it is less effective with some Gram-negative bacteria. It has both bactericidal and bacteriostatic mechanisms of action. It is also useful against fungi and enveloped viruses, though this has not been extensively investigated. For use in animals, it is used as a topical disinfectant of wounds. It is commonly used to manage skin infections in dogs. It is harmful in high concentrations, but is used safely in low concentrations in many products, such as mouthwash and contact lens solutions.
Microcare CPH is a preservative for both pharmaceuticals and personal care products.
Hexachlorophene is a chlorinated bisphenol antiseptic with a bacteriostatic action against Gram-positive organisms, but much less effective against Gram-negative organisms. It is mainly used in soaps and creams and is an ingredient of various preparations used for skin disorders. It is a detergent cleanser, is an antibacterial sudsing emulsion for topical administration. It is a bacteriostatic cleansing agent. It cleanses the skin thoroughly and has bacteriostatic action against staphylococci and other gram-positive bacteria.Hexachlorophene primary mechanism of action of hexachlorophene, based on studies with Bacillus megatherium, is to inhibit the membrane-bound part of the electron transport chain, respiratory D-lactate dehydrogenase. It induces leakage, causes protoplast lysis, and inhibits respiration.
