Magnesium

Magnesium is an alkaline earth metal and the seventh most abundant element in the Earth's crust. It is the 11th most abundant element by mass in the human body; its ions are essential to all living cells, where they play a major role in manipulating important biological polyphosphate compounds like ATP, DNA, and RNA. It is also the metallic ion at the center of chlorophyll, and is thus a common additive to fertilizers. Magnesium compounds are used medicinally as common laxatives, antacids, and in a number of situations where stabilization of abnormal nerve excitation and blood vessel spasm is required. The main applications of magnesium are, component of aluminium alloys, in die-casting, to remove sulfur in the production of iron and steel, the production of titanium in the Kroll process. Magnesium, in its purest form, can be compared with aluminium, and is strong and light, so it is used in several high volume part manufacturing applications, including automotive and truck components. The second application field of magnesium is electronic devices. Because of low weight, good mechanical and electrical properties, magnesium is widely used for manufacturing of mobile phones, laptop computers, cameras, and other electronic components. Magnesium's high burning temperature makes it a useful tool for starting emergency fires during outdoor recreation. Other uses include flash photography, flares, pyrotechnics and fireworks sparklers. It is also used in the form of turnings or ribbons, to prepare Grignard reagents, which are useful in organic synthesis.

Properties Suppliers
Magnesium Carbonate

Magnesium carbonate is a white solid that occurs in nature as a mineral. It used to produce magnesium metal and basic refractory bricks. It is also used in flooring, fireproofing, fire extinguishing compositions, cosmetics, dusting powder, and toothpaste. Other applications are as filler material, smoke suppressant in plastics, a reinforcing agent in neoprene rubber, a drying agent, a laxative to loosen the bowels, and color retention in foods. In addition, high purity magnesium carbonate is used as antacid and as an additive in table salt to keep it free flowing.

Properties Suppliers
Magnesium Lignosulfonate

Magnesium Lignosulfonate for the use of coal water slurry in thermal power plant and other enterprises, as the dispersant, improve the dispersion ability of coal, increase coal-fired heating efficiency and utilization rate, greatly reducingthe amount of coal containing in the fly ash, while reducing bypass and caking, improve the life of the furnace body,in refractory material, ceramic products to reduce water, plasticizing, flocculation effect and modified products used as water reducer for concrete, improve the workability of concrete, the fluidity of anti permeability, improve the concrete strength andcompactness, with early strength effect, shorten the setting time, improve the compressive strength, at the same time reduce slump loss of concrete.

Properties Suppliers
Magnesium Nitrate

Magnesium nitrate is a hygroscopic salt. It occurs in mines and caverns as nitromagnesite. This form is not common, although it may be present where guano contacts magnesium-rich rock. It is used in the ceramics, printing, chemical and agriculture industries. Fertilizer blends containing magnesium nitrate usually have ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate and micronutrients; these blends are used in the greenhouse and hydroponics trade.

Properties Suppliers
Magnesium Nitrate Hexahydrate

Magnesium nitrate hexahydrate is used as fertilizer, in manufacture of ammonium nitrate, as a reagent chemical, and in pyrotechnics.

Properties Suppliers
Magnesium Oxide

Magnesium oxide is a mineral that occurs naturally as periclase and is a source of magnesium. It is one of the raw materials for making Portland cement in dry process plants. It is an efficient moisture absorbent used by many libraries for preserving books. In medicine, magnesium oxide is used for relief of heartburn and sore stomach, as an antacid, magnesium supplement, and as a short-term laxative. It is also used to improve symptoms of indigestion. It is used as an insulator in industrial cables, as a basic refractory material for crucibles and as a principal fireproofing ingredient in construction materials. It is used as a reference white color in colorimetry, owing to its good diffusing and reflectivity properties. It may be smoked onto the surface of an opaque material to form an integrating sphere. It is also used as a protective coating in plasma displays.

Magnesium Sulfate

Magnesium sulfate is a chemical compound containing magnesium, sulfur and oxygen. It is used as a drying agent. In agriculture and gardening, magnesium sulfate is used to correct magnesium deficiency in soil, since magnesium is an essential element in the chlorophyll molecule. It is commonly used as a desiccant in organic synthesis due to its affinity for water. It is used in bath salts, particularly in flotation therapy where high concentrations raise the bath water's specific gravity, effectively making the body more buoyant. This property is also used to restore some Lava lamps damaged by being shaken by exchanging the water and adding drops of a concentrated solution until sustainable buoyancy is reached. It is also used as a reactive compound in the manufacture of Black Powder, where it contributes to a violent burn rate thus reducing material costs. Oral magnesium sulfate is commonly used as a saline laxative. Epsom salt is also available in a gel form for topical application in treating aches and pains.
