Ajmaline is a class IA antiarrhythmic agent. It is often used to bring out typical findings of ST elevations in patients suspected of having Brugada syndrome. The compound was first isolated by Salimuzzaman Siddiqui in 1931 from the roots of Rauwolfia serpentina.
Ajulemic acid is a synthetic cannabinoid derivative of the non-psychoactive THC metabolite 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC which shows useful analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects without causing a subjective "high". It is being developed for the treatment of neuropathic pain and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. It does not however share the anti-emetic effects of other cannabinoids but may be useful for treating pain and chronic inflammatory conditions where nausea is not present. Side effects include dry mouth, tiredness and dizziness.
Ajwain Oil is obtained from the fruits of Carum Copticu .It is used as a fragrance and flavor raw material; aromatherapy oils, herbal ingredient in skincare products.
Akuammine, an indole alkaloid, is the most abundant active alkaloid found in the seeds from the tree Picralima nitida, commonly known as Akuamma. The seeds are mainly used for the treatment of malaria and diarrhoea, and as a painkiller. Akuammine is structurally related to both yohimbine and mitragynine, both of which are alkaloid plant products with uses in medicine.
Alantolactone is a volatile oil found in elecampane and is responsible for many of elecampane's pharmaceutical uses. It raises the blood sugar level in large doses and lowers it in small doses. It also expels intestinal worms. Among the lactones, alantolactone is one of the highest in bactericidal and fungicidal properties.
Alaproclate is a psychoactive drug and research chemical that was being developed as an antidepressant by the Swedish pharmaceutical company Astra AB (now AstraZeneca) in the 1970s. It acts as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and along with zimelidine and indalpine, was one of the first of its kind. Development was discontinued due to the observation of liver complications in rodent studies. Some studies have found that it acts as a noncompetitive NMDA antagonist, but does not have discriminative stimulus properties similar to phencyclidine.
Alazocine was the first drug discovered to act as a σ1 receptor agonist. It has no significant affinity for the σ2 receptor. It also acts as a κ-opioid receptor agonist, and to a much lesser extent, as an NMDA receptor antagonist.
Albaconazole is a triazole antifungal. It has potential broad-spectrum activity.
Albuterol is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. It is a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Albuterol inhalation is used to treat or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway disease. Albuterol is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.Albuterol controls symptoms of asthma and other lung diseases but does not cure them.
Alclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
