(Z)-Docos-13-enoic Acid

Erucic acid is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. It has many of the same uses as mineral oils, but with the advantage that it is more readily biodegradable. Its high tolerance to temperature makes it suitable for transmission oil. Its ability to polymerize and dry means it can be - and is - used as a binder for oil paints. It will readily form many organic compounds. Adding this ability to its polymerizing characteristics makes it very suitable for use as organic matrices that need to be polymeric. This makes it especially useful in the manufacture of emulsions to coat photographic films and papers. A complex cocktail of many different erucic acid compounds is commonly used in color film. It is widely used to produce emollients, especially for skin and healthcare products. Like other fatty acids, it gets converted into surfactants.

1,2,3-Trihydroxybenzene is a benzenetriol. It is a powerful reducing agent. It was first prepared by Scheele 1786 by heating gallic acid. An alternate preparation is heating para-chlorophenoldisulphonic acid with potassium hydroxide. One can find its uses in hair dying, dying of suturing materials and for oxygen absorption in gas analysis. It also has antiseptic properties. It was also used as a developing agent in black-and-white developers, but its use is largely historical except for special purpose applications.

1,4-Dihydroxybenzene is an aromatic organic compound which is a type of phenol. It can be considered a simple polyphenol. Substituted derivatives of this parent compound are also referred to as hydroquinones. It has a variety of uses principally associated with its action as a reducing agent which is soluble in water. It is a major component in most photographic developers where, with the compound Metol, it reduces silver halides to elemental silver. The disodium diphenolate salt of hydroquinone is used as an alternating comonomer unit in the production of the polymer PEEK. In human medicine, hydroquinone is used as a topical application in skin whitening to reduce the color of skin as it does not have the same predisposition to cause dermatitis as metol does. It is also used as a raw material of herbicides, rubber antioxidants and dye stuffs.

1,4-Dimethoxybenzene is the para form of dimethoxybenzene, a volatile aromatic ether with a sweet floral odor. It occurs naturally in willow and Zuchini. It appears to attract bees as it has a powerful response in their antenna. It is useful as an intermediate in synthesis of pharmaceuticals as well as other organic molecules. It is used in some paints and as a diazo dye. Cosmetically it is used on greasy skin, and with sulfur to treat acne, or as a dandruff treatment. Because of its floral odor, it is useful in perfumes and flavors. It can be used as a developer in black and white film, and as a base in synthesizing catecholamines and phenethylamines.

2,4-Di-tert-Amylphenol is used as UV stabilizer intermediate, photographic developers, specialty surfactants, fuel additive intermediate.

Properties Suppliers

2,4-Diaminophenol is a dihydrogen chloride salt and is used as a photographic developer. It is unusual amongst developing agents as it works most effectively in slightly acid conditions rather than the strongly alkaline conditions required for most other developers.

2,4-Dinitrophenol is a cellular metabolic poison. It uncouples oxidative phosphorylation by carrying protons across the mitochondrial membrane, leading to a rapid consumption of energy without generation of ATP. Dinitrophenols as a class of compounds, of which there are six members, do not occur naturally but are all manufactured compounds. Commercial 2,4-dinitrophenol is primarily used for scientific research and in manufacturing. It has been used at times to make dyes, other organic chemicals, and wood preservatives. It has also been used to make photographic developer and pesticides.
