COTTEC

COTTEC is a water soluble alkaline phenolic resin which is mixed with sand & then hardened by gassing with carbon dioxide. The benefits are it is non flammable, water based system, it is exceptionally low free phenol & formaldehyde, it offers good post-casting knock down properties and further no effluent is generated. Although the COTTEC process is designed for mechanised production, it is also suited to manual bench preparation of cores & moulds.

Calcium borate can be prepared by reacting calcium metal with boric acid. A hydrated form occurs naturally as the minerals colemanite, nobleite and priceite. One of its uses is as a binder in some grades of hexagonal boron nitride for hot pressing. Other uses are flame retardant in epoxy molding compounds, a ceramic flux in some ceramic glazes, reactive self-sealing binders in hazardous waste management, additive for insect-resistant polystyrene, fertilizer, and production of boron glasses.

Chlorendic Acid

Chlorendic acid is a chlorinated hydrocarbon used in the synthesis of some flame retardants and polymers. It is a common breakdown product of several organochlorine insecticides. It is industrially produced in high volumes by Diels-Alder reaction. It is used as an intermediate in synthesis of unsaturated flame-retardant polyester resins and plasticizers, and as a finishing flame-retardant treatment for wool. A major use is in production of fiberglass-reinforced resins for chemical industry equipment. It can be used to make alkyd resins for use in special inks and paints. It is used as a hardening agent in epoxy resins used in manufacture of printed circuit boards. When reacted with nonhalogenated glycols, it forms halogenated polyols used as flame retardants in polyurethane foams. It is also used for production of dibutyl chlorendate and dimethyl chlorendate, which are used as reactive flame retardants in plastics. In limited amounts, it is used as an additive in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer.

Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride is a high heat, corrosion resistant chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) material. Its most common application is in single-family and multifamily hot and cold water distribution systems. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride can also be used for residential fire sprinkler systems, gray water systems, reclaimed water, chemical drain waste systems, industrial processing, and commercial and high-rise construction. It can withstand corrosive water at temperatures greater than PVC, typically 40°C to 50°C (104°F to 122°F) or higher.It can be used (depending on chemistry) up to 180º F. Corzan® CPVC conforms to ASTM-D-1784-95 Class 23447-B (formerly Type IV Grade 1) and is manufactured without fillers or plasticizers. It exhibits excellent fire properties UL-94V-0 and flame spread less than 20 per ASTM E-84.
