Rutin is a citrus flavonoid glycoside found in buckwheat, the leaves and petioles of Rheum species, and asparagus. It is also found in the fruit of the Fava D'anta tree, fruits and flowers of pagoda tree, fruits and fruit rinds and berries such as mulberry, ash tree fruits and cranberries. Its name comes from the name of Ruta graveolens, a plant that also contains rutin. It is sometimes referred to as Vitamin P, although not strictly a vitamin. It is the glycoside between the flavonols quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose. It can be created by bonding a disaccharide onto the hydroxyl group of Quercetin. It has a veterinary use in the management of chylothorax in dogs and cats.
Bromine is in the halogen element group. Both eminent scientist Antoine Balard and Justus von Liebig discovered bromine. Bromine is the only liquid nonmetallic element. It is a member of the halogen group. It is a heavy, volatile, mobile, dangerous reddish-brown liquid. Bromine atoms may also react directly with other radicals to help terminate the free radical chain-reactions that characterize combustion. Bromine is available commercially so it is not normally necessary to make it in the laboratory. Bromine also occurs in seawater as the sodium salt but in much smaller quantities than chloride. It is recovered commercially through the treatment of seawater with chlorine gas and flushing through with air. Bromine is used in industry to make organobromo compounds. A major one was dibromoethane an agent for leaded gasoline, before they were largely phased out due to environmental considerations. Other organ bromines are used as insecticides, in fire extinguishers and to make pharmaceuticals. Bromine is used in making fumigants, dyes, flame proofing agents, water purification compounds, sanitizes, medicinals, agents for photography and in brominates vegetable oil, used as emulsifier in many citrus-flavored soft drinks. Bromine is also used in the production of brominated vegetable oil, which is used as an emulsifier in many citrus-flavored soft drinks. Bromine will also oxidize metals and metalloids to the corresponding bromides
Tylosin is a macrolide-class antibiotic used in veterinary medicine. It has a broad spectrum of activity against gram positive organisms. It has also been used as a growth promotant in some species, and as a treatment for colitis in companion animals.
Biorinil is a highly effective injectable glucocorticoid agent with antiinflammatory potency approximately 17 times that of hydrocortisone. It is part of several antibiotic formulations indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases of horses, dogs, cats, cattle, and swine. It is used in horses, dogs, and cats in the treatment or adjunctive therapy of certain ear and skin conditions when such conditions are caused by or associated with neomycin-susceptible organisms and/or allergy. It is not used in animals during last trimester of pregnancy where it may precipitate premature birth, fetal death, and retained placenta.
Clopidol is a very effective anticoccidial agent used in poultry.
D-xylose is a sugar first isolated from wood.Xylose is classified as a monosaccharide of the aldopentose type.It is the precursor to hemicellulose, one of the main constituents of biomass. It is also found in berries, spinach, broccoli, and pears. In animal medicine, xylose is used to test for malabsorption.
Febantel is a starting material to produce a broad spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintics and their derivatives such as fenbendazole and oxfendazole used in humans, sheep, cattle, and horses via the removal of a methoxyacetyl group and cyclisation process. Febantel is also used as an anthelmintic itself against gastrointestinal parasites in animals.
