Polyelectrolytes are polymers whose repeating units bear an electrolyte group. Polyelectrolyte properties are thus similar to both electrolytes and polymers, and are sometimes called polysalts. Polyelectrolytes are classified into weak polyelectrolyte and strong polyelectrolyte. A 'strong' polyelectrolyte is one which dissociates completely in solution for most reasonable pH values. Weak polyelectrolytes are not fully charged in solution, and moreover their fractional charge can be modified by changing the solution pH, counterion concentration, or ionic strength. Polyelectrolytes which bear both cationic and anionic repeat groups are called polyampholytes. Polyelectrolytes are highly versatile products which enhance the performance of a wide range of industrial applications and essential processes right from water purification, oil recovery, colour removal, paper making, mineral processing and a host of other uses. Polyelectrolytes are both flocculants as well as deflocculants depending upon the molecular weight.

Ferrous chloride has a high melting point, paramagnetic solid, usually obtained as an off-white solid. It crystallizes from water as the greenish tetrahydrate, which is the form that is most commonly encountered in commerce and the laboratory. Ferrous chloride has a variety of niche applications, but the related compounds ferrous sulfate and ferric chloride enjoy more applications. Aside from use in the laboratory synthesis of iron complexes, ferrous chloride serves as a reducing flocculating agent in wastewater treatment, especially for wastes containing chromate. It is the precursor to hydrated iron(III) oxides that are magnetic pigments. Ferrous chloride is employed as a reducing agent in many organic synthesis reactions.
Flocsure-PC-4964 polyelectrolyte is a high active, high molecular weight cationic flocculant which works effectively as a coagulant aid or sludge dewatering agent in liquid-solid separation processes.
