Amino Acid

Amino Acids are biologically important organic compounds containing amine (-NH2) and carboxyl (-COOH) functional groups, along with a side-chain (R group) specific to each amino acid. The key elements of an amino acid are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, though other elements are found in the side-chains of certain amino acids. About 500 amino acids are known (though only 20 appear in the genetic code) and can be classified in many ways.Amino acids are the structural units (monomers) that make up proteins. They join together to form short polymer chains called peptides or longer chains called either polypeptides or proteins. These polymers are linear and unbranched, with each amino acid within the chain attached to two neighboring amino acids.Twenty-two amino acids are naturally incorporated into polypeptides and are called proteinogenic or natural amino acids.Amino acids are used for a variety of applications in industry, but their main use is as additives to animal feed. The food industry is also a major consumer of amino acids, in particular, glutamic acid, which is used as a flavor enhancer, and aspartame (aspartyl-phenylalanine-1-methyl ester) as a low-calorie artificial sweetener. Amino acids are important as low-cost feedstocks. These compounds are used in chiral pool synthesis as enantiomerically pure building-blocks.Amino acids have been investigated as precursors chiral catalysts, e.g., for asymmetric hydrogenation reactions, although no commercial applications exist.Amino acids are under development as components of a range of biodegradable polymers. These materials have applications as environmentally friendly packaging and in medicine in drug delivery and the construction of prosthetic implants.

Properties Suppliers
Ampelopsin

Ampelopsin is a flavanonol, a type of flavonoid. It can be found in the Japanese Raisin Tree Hovenia dulcis. The compound is credited with hepatoprotective effects.

Properties Suppliers
Anatoxin I

Anatoxin I is a secondary, bicyclic amine alkaloid and cyanotoxin with acute neurotoxicity. The toxin is produced by at least four different genera of cyanobacteria. The toxin is much less likely to be identified in the southern hemisphere. Symptoms of anatoxin exposure are loss of coordination, muscular fasciculations, convulsions and death by respiratory paralysis. Its mode of action is through the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor where it acts as an analogue of acetylcholine. The molecule is not degraded by cholinesterase thus causes permanent stimulation of muscle cells leading to paralysis.

Properties Suppliers
Anisomycin

Anisomycin is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces griseolus which inhibits protein synthesis. Partial inhibition of DNA synthesis occurs at anisomycin concentrations that effect 95% inhibition of protein synthesis. It can activate stress-activated protein kinases, MAP kinase and other signal transduction pathways. It is inactive against bacteria.

Properties Suppliers
Armid DM10

Armid DM10 is N,N-Dimethyldecanamide.Armid DM10 solvent is excellent at solubilizing triazole fungicides and certain other agro actives (e.g. chlorpyrifos, propanil, and trifluralin) for improved stability in EC, ME, SE and EW formulations

Properties Suppliers
Ascaridole

Ascaridole is a natural organic compound classified as a bicyclic monoterpene that has an unusual bridging peroxide functional group. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent smell and taste that is soluble in most organic solvents. Ascaridole determines the specific flavor of the Chilean tree boldo and is a major constituent of the oil of Mexican Tea. It is a component of natural medicine, tonic drinks and food flavoring in Latin American cuisine. Ascaridole was the first, and for a long time only, discovered naturally occurring organic peroxide. It was isolated from chenopodium oil and named by Huthig in 1908. Ascaridole is a colorless liquid that is soluble in most organic solvents. It is toxic and has a pungent, unpleasant smell and taste. Ascaridole is mainly used as an anthelmintic drug that expels parasitic worms from body and plants.

Properties Suppliers
Aspalathin

Aspalathin is a C-linked dihydrochalcone glucoside found in rooibos tea, a herbal tea prepared from the South African rooibos plant, Aspalathus linearis. It has shown antimutagenic and antioxidant properties.
