Diethyl Ether was first synthesized in 1540 by Valerius Cordus, and he termed as - sweet oil of vitriol. Diethyl ether is an extremely flammable organic solvent with many uses. Diethyl ether was one of the first anesthetics developed for surgical use, but has since been replaced by less flammable chemicals. Diethyl ether is commonly used as an industrial or laboratory solvent. It has narcotic properties and has been known to cause temporary psychological addiction, sometimes referred to as etheromania. Diethyl ether has a high cetane number of 85-96 and is used as a starting fluid, in combination with petroleum distillates for gasoline and diesel engines. It is a common laboratory solvent. It is also a common solvent for the Grignard reaction in addition to other reactions involving organometallic reagents,liniments and analgesics (painkillers) and smokeless gun powder. It is also used in agricultural and pharmaceutical applications, as an intermediate in the preparation and manufacturing of other basic organic chemicals, as a catalyst in industrial polymerization processes, as an alternative fuel, as a foam expansion agent, and as an aerosol propellant for a variety of products that include adhesives, sealants, foam in a can, coatings, paints, automotive care products, topical skin cooling sprays, over the counter treatments, hairspray, sun screen and a variety of other personal care and household products. Diethyl ether can be prepared both in laboratories and on an industrial scale by the acid ether synthesis.

Ethyl Acetate

Ethyl acetate is the ester of ethanol and acetic acid. It is colorless liquid has a characteristic sweet smell and is used in glues, nail polish removers, decaffeinating tea and coffee, and cigarettes. Ethyl acetate is synthesized in industry mainly via the classic Fischer esterification reaction of ethanol and acetic acid. It is also prepared in industry using the Tishchenko reaction, by combining two equivalents of acetaldehyde in the presence of an alkoxide catalyst. Ethyl acetate is used primarily as a solvent and diluent, being favored because of its low cost, low toxicity, and agreeable odor. Ethyl acetate is the most common ester in wine, being the product of the most common volatile acetic acid and the ethyl alcohol generated during the fermentation. Ethyl Acetate is used in a variety of coating formulations such as epoxies, urethanes, cellulosics, acrylics and vinyls. 2-Ethyl Hexanol

2-Ethyl Hexanol is a branched,eight-carbon, fatty alcohol. It is a colorless liquid that is poorly soluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents. It is produced on a massive scale for use in numerous applications such as solvents, flavors, and fragrances and especially as a precursor for production of other chemicals such as emollients and plasticizers. 2-Ethyl Hexanol can also be used as an octane booster when reacted with nitric acid. 2-Ethyl Hexanol is produced industrially by the aldol condensation of n-butyraldehyde, followed by hydrogenation of the resulting hydroxyaldehyde. It is also used as dispersing agent for pigment pastes. It is used in the production of plasticisers, acrylates, as a solvent in the paint and varnishes industries, as a wetting agent in textile industry, as a agent which improve cetane number in refining industry, it is also used in production of coat forming agents and antifoam agents.
