Europium(III) sulfate is used as a phosphor activator for color cathode-ray tubes and liquid-crystal displays used in computer monitors and televisions employ europium oxide as the red phosphor; and also applied for dopant for speciality glass and plastic.
Gadolinium(III) Oxide is one of the most commonly available forms of the rare earth element gadolinium, derivatives of which are potential contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging. Gadolinium(III) Oxide can be formed by thermal decomposition of the hydroxide, nitrate, carbonate, or oxalates. Gadolinium(III) Oxide forms on the surface of gadolinium metal.
Hexafluoroisopropanol is an organic compound. This fluorinated alcohol finds use as solvent and synthetic intermediate. As a solvent hexafluoroisopropanol is polar and exhibits strong hydrogen bonding properties enabling it to dissolve substances that serve as hydrogen-bond acceptors, such as amides and ethers. It is a speciality solvent for some polar polymers and organic synthesis. It is especially effective for solubilizing a wide range of polymers, including those that are not soluble in the most common organic solvents: such as polyamides, polyacrylonitriles, polyacetals, polyesters, and polyketones. It has also found use in biochemistry to solubilize peptides and to monomerize β-sheet protein aggregates. Because of its acidity, it can be used as acid in volatile buffers for ion pair HPLC - mass spectrometry of nucleic acids. It is the precursor to the inhalation anesthetic sevoflurane.
Stoichiometric oxidant in the TEMPO oxidation of nerol to neral.1 Oxidant employed in the rhodium-catalyzed aziridination of olefins with sulfamate esters.2
Unactivated sp3 C-H bonds of both oxime and pyridine substrates undergo highly regio- and chemoselective Pd(II)-catalyzed oxygenation with PhI(OAc)2 as a stoichiometric oxidant.
Used in the room temperature Pd-catalyzed 2-arylation of indoles
Useful reagent for the synthesis of a wide variety of heterocyclic compounds.
