Pholedrine is a drug that stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. It is administered as a topical eye drop form for the purpose of dilating the pupil. It can be used to diagnose Horner's syndrome.
Piclozotan is a selective 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist, which has neuroprotective effects in animal studies. It has been through early clinical trials in humans for treatment of acute stroke, but results have not yet been announced.
Piperazine is an organic compound that consists of a six-membered ring containing two opposing nitrogen atoms. It was first introduced as an anthelmintic in 1953. It is used in the manufacture of plastics, resins, pesticides, brake fluid and other industrial materials. It is also a fluid used for CO2 and H2S scrubbing in association with methyl diethanolamine.
Piperidine is an organic compound. This heterocyclic amine consists of a six-membered ring containing five methylene units and one nitrogen atom. It is a widely used building block and chemical reagent in the synthesis of organic compounds, including pharmaceuticals. It is used as a solvent and as a base. A significant industrial application of piperidine is for the production of dipiperidinyl dithiuram tetrasulfide, which is used as a rubber vulcanization accelerator.
Pitofenone is an antispasmodic.
Plinabulin is a potent microtubule-targeting agent derived from the natural diketopiperazine phenylahistin with a colchicine-like tubulin depolymerization activity. It is an anticancer agent. It will selectively attacking tumor blood vessels and starving the tumors. Plinabulin is one of several hundred analogs that were produced after finding this activity in an extract from a marine organism and made synthetically.
Pranlukast is a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor-1 antagonist. It antagonizes or reduces bronchospasm caused, principally in asthmatics, by an allergic reaction to accidentally or inadvertently encountered allergens.
Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant drug used for neuropathic pain and as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults. It has also been found effective for generalized anxiety disorder and is approved for this use in the European Union. It was designed as a more potent successor to gabapentin. Recent studies have shown that pregabalin is effective at treating chronic pain in disorders such as fibromyalgia and spinal cord injury. In June 2007, pregabalin became the first medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration specifically for the treatment of fibromyalgia.
Prilocaine is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type first prepared by Claes Tegner and Nils Lofgren. In its injectable form (trade name Citanest), it is often used in dentistry. It is also often combined with lidocaine as a preparation for dermal anesthesia (lidocaine/prilocaine or EMLA), for treatment of conditions like paresthesia. It is given as a combination with the vasoconstrictor epinephrine under the trade name Citanest Forte.
Procaterol is a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the treatment of asthma. It has never been filed for FDA evaluation in the United States, where it is not marketed. The drug is readily oxidated in the presence of moisture and air, making it unsuitable for therapeutic use by inhalation.
