Phentolamine is a reversible nonselective alpha-adrenergic antagonist. The primary application for phentolamine is for the control of hypertensive emergencies, most notably due to pheochromocytoma. It also has usefulness in the treatment of cocaine induced hypertension, where one would generally avoid beta blockers and where calcium channel blockers are not effective. It also has diagnostic and therapeutic roles in complex regional pain syndrome. It has recently been introduced in the dental field as a local anesthetic reversal agent.
Piketoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for topical use in form of a cream.
Pioglitazone is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2. Pioglitazone selectively stimulates nuclear receptor peroxisone proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma). It modulates the transcription of the insulin-sensitive genes involved in the control of glucose and lipid metabolism in the lipidic, muscular tissues and in the liver.Pioglitazone acts as an agonist at peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) in target tissues for insulin action such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and liver. Activation of PPAR-gamma receptors regulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in the control of glucose production, transport, and utilization. In this way, pioglitazone enhances tissue sensitivity to insulin.Possible hazard hypogycemia
Policresulen is a topical haemostatic and antiseptic. It is indicated for common anal disorders, such as hemorrhoids, and for gynecological infections.
Poly(Silane) is a macromolecule containing exclusively silicon atoms in the backbone. It is used as anti ulcer drug.
Posaconazole is a triazole antifungal drug. It is used to treat invasive infections by Candida species, Mucor, and Aspergillus species in severely immunocompromised patients. There is also limited clinical evidence for its utility in treatment of invasive disease caused by Fusarium species (fusariosis).
Praziquantel is an anthelmintic effective against flatworms. It is used against Schistosoma. As of 2005, praziquantel is the primary treatment for human schistosomiasis, for which it is usually effective in a single dose. It is also used to treat liver flukes such as Clonorchis sinensis, and against fascioliasis. In veterinary medicine it is widely used against tapeworms, either alone or in combination with pyrantel pamoate.
Prednisolone is the active metabolite of prednisone, which is also used as a drug. It is a corticosteroid drug with predominant glucocorticoid and low mineralocorticoid activity, making it useful for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory and auto-immune conditions such as asthma, uveitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, temporal arteritis and Crohn's disease, Bell's palsy, multiple sclerosis, cluster headaches, vasculitis, acute lymphoblastic leukemia and autoimmune hepatitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and dermatomyositis. It is also used for treatment of sarcoidosis, though the mechanism is unknown.
Progesterone is a crucial metabolic intermediate in the production of endogenous steroids.
Proheptazine is an opioid analgesic from the phenazepine family. It was invented in the 1960s. It produces similar effects to other opioids, including analgesia, sedation, dizziness and nausea.
