Allyl Isothiocyanate is the organosulfur compound. Allyl isothiocyanate serves the plant as a defense against herbivores. It comes from the seeds of black mustard or brown Indian mustard. Allyl isothiocyanate is produced commercially by the reaction of allyl chloride and potassium thiocyanate. It is used as a fumigant, counterirritant in ointments,fungicide, bactericide, wood preservative, pharmaceutical and plastic and rubber and plasters and as an intermediate to create a desired chemical compound.
