Calcium bicarbonate exists only in aqueous solution containing the calcium, bicarbonate and carbonate ions, together with dissolved carbon dioxide. Dissolved carbon dioxide in rainwater reacts with limestone, calcium carbonate to form soluble calcium bicarbonate. This soluble compound is then washed away with the rainwater. This is form of weathering is called 'Carbonation'.
