Polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG 3350) belongs to the class of medications called laxatives. Polyethylene glycol 3350 can increase the luminal secretion and facilitate bowel movements. Polyethylene glycol 3350 is an osmotic laxative.Polyethylene glycol 3350 is not fermented into hydrogen or methane by intestinal fermentation. Polyethylene glycol 3350 has no effect on active secretion or intestinal absorption of electrolytes or glucose. Polyethylene glycol 3350 is contraindicated in patients allergic to polyethylene glycol. It can cause fatal allergic reactions. Polyethylene glycol 3350 should not be prescribed to patients with eating disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, renal disorders, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, renal disorders, recent changes in bowel movements and ulcerative colitis.
