Sulfanilic acid is a colourless crystalline solid produced from sulfonation of aniline.It readily forms diazo compounds and is used to make dyes and sulpha drugs. It exists as a zwitterion, and has an unusually high melting point.It is also used as a raw material in the production of optical brighteners, food colors, specialty dyes, and concrete additives.
