Zanamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor used in the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza caused by influenza A virus and influenza B virus. It was the first neuraminidase inhibitor commercially developed. It has not been known to cause toxic effects, does not spread around through the body's systemic circulation and shows no signs of viral resistance from any flu.
