A Schulman expands compounding capacity in Germany with new production line

AKRON, US: A Schulman Inc said that it will be increasing its compounding capacity with new sheet molding compound (SMC) production line in Germany. This will be operational before the end of 2017.

In addition, to meet the growing demand in Europe, before operation of the new line, it has started an inventory unit in Slovenia.

This new manufacturing line will produce the company’s total range of glass and carbon fiber sheet molding compounds in Europe, these meet the most difficult application needs in key markets, for example automotive, aerospace and energy.

“This new compounding facility will proceed with the growth in high-performance composites. With this the company presents standard plans globally with high-quality our customers generally expect,” said Frank Roederer, senior VP and general manager, US, Canada and engineered composites.

“This investment is associated with the growth of our product range, specifically with our emphasis carbon fiber Quantum innovation in Europe to address our clients' issues for light weighting,” added Mercedes Alonso, managing director, engineered composites, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
