RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL: AkzoNobel has reached an agreement to supply coatings for the roof of Brazil’s famous Maracana stadium, which will host a major soccer final in 2014. The contract was secured via a dedicated team which offers complete coatings solutions for large infrastructure projects around the world. AkzoNobel currently employs over 2,800 people in Brazil, and its 2011 revenue totaled €950 million. The majority of revenue is generated from local production.

The company’s ambition is to achieve revenue of €1.5 billion in Brazil by 2015. The Maracana stadium contract involves the supply of Interseal 670HS protective coatings, while both Interseal 670HS and Interfine 979 will be used at the Gremio Arena. Both are supplied by AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business.

“As a global coatings supplier with a product portfolio broad enough to match the needs of almost any customer, we are positioned to satisfy demanding requirements and specifications. Brazil is one of our key high growth markets and has a pivotal role to play in our strategic agenda. AkzoNobel is therefore fully focused on capturing the opportunities offered by Brazil’s prominent place in the sporting spotlight in the years to come,” said Jaap de Jong, Regional Director, Latin America and President AkzoNobel Brazil.
