JILIN, CHINA: BASF and the municipal government of Jilin City in China have entered into a strategic cooperation framework agreement, which outlines the joint collaboration between the two parties in promoting sustainable city and industry development in Jilin City.
BASF will offer its value-added solutions and innovation know-how to help transform the city into a new automotive production hub in Northeast China while strengthening the competitiveness of a range of industries.
Jilin City is a strategic location in shaping many industries in the Northeast region in China such as automotive manufacturing. Ultimately, it aims to become a new automotive industry hub in the Northeast, producing more than one million vehicles a year.
BASF has an extensive history helping almost all major automotive OEMs, as well as suppliers in China and globally, enabling vehicles to be built and operated more efficiently. In addition to rich experience in vehicle emissions control, environmental friendly automotive coatings, and lightweight solutions, BASF also provides battery materials, interior materials, noise and vibration absorption solutions, fuel additives, lubricants and coolants.
Jilin City also aims to become a role model in modern agriculture, promoting technologies that increase grain yield and introducing more products to the international market. BASF will provide comprehensive agricultural solutions to support Jilin City in this direction.
Furthermore, the two parties will cooperate in the areas of public buildings, infrastructure construction and the promotion of sustainable construction materials. Building on the successful cooperation with Jilin City in building energy conservation, BASF will contribute to the development and promotion of low energy building solutions, permeable pavement and environmentally friendly running track.
“Jilin City is a hub for the chemical and carbon fiber industries in China. BASF is highly relevant and complementary to the industries here. This is a partnership with broad prospects,” said Zhao Jingbo, communist party secretary of Jilin City.

With this cooperation agreement, we are committed to working more closely with Jilin City’s automotive industry to drive the application and innovation of advanced automotive materials,” said Stephan Kothrade, president and chairman Greater China, BASF.
