NANJING, CHINA: Dr Stephan Kothrade will become President of BASF-YPC Company Limited, effective January 1, 2012. Kothrade will succeed Dr Bernd Blumenberg, who will retire at the end of 2011.

Kothrade has worked with BASF since 1995. Most recently, he headed Plant Operations, Engineering & Infrastructure at BASF in Antwerp, Belgium. Both the Antwerp site and BASF-YPC in Nanjing are “Verbund” sites, a German term referring to a large-scale, highly-integrated chemical production complex. BASF operates a total of six Verbund sites among its 380 production sites worldwide.

Kothrade also has held roles including Managing Director of BASF in Hungary and Southeast Europe; and global Director of Procurement for BASF Inorganic and Specialty Chemicals. He previously worked with the Strategic Planning department, and in R&D and production roles.

Blumenberg has led BASF-YPC since its conception in 1996, and was at the heart of what became the largest single investment in BASF history as well as the largest single chemical investment in China.
