Bayer appoints new board member, Michael Koenig
Michael Koenig, Member of the Executive Committee, Bayer MaterialScience.

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY: Bayer AG appointed Michael Koenig, currently member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience and Head of the Polycarbonates business unit, to the Board of Management of the holding company effective 1 April 2013. He is to succeed Dr Richard Pott effective 1 June 2013, upon Pott’s retirement as of that date.

Koenig will take over Pott’s duties as Labor Director and as the Board member responsible for human resources, the Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions and the subsidiary Currenta. As part of the reorganization within the Board of Management, the Chairman, Dr Marijn Dekkers, will assume responsibility for strategy and Chief Financial Officer Werner Baumann will additionally look after the North America region from the middle of next year.

“Michael Koenig is a successful and experienced manager with proven expertise in production, technology and marketing. In addition, he has lived and worked in China for many years and thus has great experience of this market, which is very important for Bayer,” said Werner Wenning, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Bayer AG.
