MUMBAI, INDIA: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indian state owned oil company, and Manali Petrochemicals Limited (MPL), Chennai (India) based petrochemical player, are in talks to set up India’s single largest polyurethane manufacturing plant in Kerala. The project will spread over in 150 acres of land next to the BPCL’s existing facility at Kochi, Kerala, India. Both companies holding 50 per cent stake each in the new joint venture. A pre-feasibility report is being prepared. The new indigenous plant is expected to go on stream by January 2017.
“We are in preliminary talks with Manali Petrochemicals for propelynoxide. This would be separate from our plans with LG Chemicals. Discussion with LG Chemicals on a petrochemical plant is going slow. In fact, we fear, we may have to look at partners beyond LG Chemicals for their petrochemical plant at Kochi,” confirmed a BPCL official. However, R K Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, BPCL, declined being in talks with Manali Petrochemicals.
