Biesterfeld acquires API distributor Schutz in Germany

HAMBURG, GERMANY: Biesterfeld Spezialchemie GmbH has taken ownership of Hamburg-based company, Schutz & Co (GmbH & Co KG). The newly acquired business focuses on the distribution of customized active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and excipients. Founded in 1892, Schutz & Co has numerous long-standing partnerships with well-known manufacturers and supplies leading pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies in more than 50 countries.

"The acquisition fits perfectly into the growth strategy of the Biesterfeld Group. It not only strengthens our core competencies, but also deepens our focus on specialty chemicals and customer-specific Solutions," said Thomas Arnold, CEO of Biesterfeld AG.

"With Biesterfeld, we are delighted to have found a buyer and partner that will expand and reinforce our successful business model in the long-term," added Rudolf Tiemann and Dr Reinhold Alt, the long-serving managers and owners of Schutz & Co "In the future, we will remain on as advisors to Schutz & Co to ensure its seamless transition and integration into the Biesterfeld Group."

Together with Dr Nicole Hamelau, managing director of Biesterfeld Spezialchemie, Gotthardt assumes the management of Schutz & Co.
