HAMBURG, GERMANY: Biesterfeld Spezialchemie GmbH said that as part of its ongoing drive to develop market segment focus it is creating a new business unit for healthcare distribution. This move is a logical continuation of previous developments and will allow the distributor to effectively target this highly demanding market, the company said.
The new business unit will combine the pharmaceutical activities of Schutz & Co, acquired in 2016, and the business of the current pharmaceutical and medical devices segments. The unit will be headed by Andreas Lekebusch, who has a PhD in chemistry and has significantly shaped the strategic alignment and operational implementation of pharmaceutical and medical devices activities at Biesterfeld Spezialchemie for almost 20 years.
Biesterfeld collaborates with leading manufacturers in its extensive healthcare product portfolio. In addition to elastomers and adhesives for the manufacturing of medical devices, the distributor supplies high-purity silicones for coating syringes and cannulas. A wide range of pharmaceutical active ingredients from qualified partners and excipients for solid, liquid and topical products enables Biesterfeld to supply high-quality raw materials to the pharmaceutical industry.
The product and service portfolio will be developed and expanded in line with a targeted strategy. The development of target markets in Europe, the Middle East and Russia will continue to have high priority.
"The healthcare market is influenced by megatrends that will have a crucial impact on society, which makes it an attractive growth market for us. We understand the exceptionally stringent requirements in this segment and we have aligned our distribution business accordingly. Setting up this business unit is an important step in our strategy of delivering competent, intensive and highly focused service to very demanding market segments," said Peter Wilkes, managing director of Biesterfeld Spezialchemie.
"The distribution of products to the pharmaceutical industry and medical device manufacturers is complex and demanding. With our extensive market knowledge and technical know-how, we are able to provide competent, tailored customer service, which is why we are regarded as experts in the market. We give high priority to quality management and taking responsibility for quality, which is especially important in the distribution of pharmaceutical active ingredients," added Andreas Lekebusch, business manager healthcare at Biesterfeld Spezialchemie.
