Braskem to build two new laboratories in Brazil

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL: Braskem SA said it will construct two new laboratories for chemical analysis and polymer testing. The Brazilian Reais 1.5 million ($470,000) investment aims to improve support in developing products and services offered to customers in the petrochemical industry. It is expected that the spaces, located in the technology and innovation center in Triunfo,  Brazil, will be opened in October.

One of laboratories have focused X-ray analysis, to evaluate the content and residual crystallinity polymer properties. The generation of knowledge brought by these techniques allow the creation of new products with different properties, as well as support the development of catalysts, reducing the technological dependence of Braskem.

Since the other space is devoted to the analysis of barriers to the passage of gases in polymers films. From a simulation process identifies the product's efficacy to prevent the entry of oxygen or other gases in food packaging applications, pharmaceutical, agrochemical canisters and fuel tanks. Thus, it is possible to increase the safety, durability and the fulfilment of regulatory requirements of the applications. The reform implies greater implementation capacity of the tests already carried out by the petrochemical industry.

“The innovations demonstrate our commitment to provide all the necessary support to our customers, by providing structure for testing, measurement and analysis. This streamlines the process for possible adjustments and ensures better quality product that hits the market. Finally, investment reinforces our commitment to innovation and development of plastic chain,” said Nercio Hexsel, CTI coordinator.
