SINGAPORE: Clariant AG said it has acquired land in the Java integrated industrial & port estate Gresik (JIIPE), Surabaya, Indonesia to build a new strategic site that will serve the growing production needs of different business units from Clariant’s Southeast Asia and Pacific region.
The first facility of Clariant to be established in the industrial park will be a new bleaching earth plant for the business unit of functional minerals, which is a leading provider of specialty products based on bentonite to enhance a wide range of products and processes in various industries from food to foundry.
Also JIIPE is the first fully integrated industrial estate established in Indonesia with good logistic connections having container and bulk port facilities, the company said.
“Our purchase of land in Surabaya once again reaffirms Clariant's commitment to growth and the future of Indonesia as manufacturing hub for South East Asia and Pacific. The building of our upcoming multi-business unit site in Surabaya will enhance our future sustainable growth in the country,” said Francois Bleger, regional head, Clariant’s Southeast Asia & Pacific region.
At the moment Clariant is operating six facilities in Indonesia with sites and plants set up in Tangerang, Cimapag, Cileungsi, Cikampek, Medan and Duri. The new location in Surabaya will further supplement Clariant’s existing manufacturing capacity and capability in the region, as the specialty chemical company continues expansion of its footprint in Asia.
