Dow licenses UNIPOL process technology to Chinese firm

MIDLAND, US: Chinese firm Shanxi Coking Co Ltd, has signed a license agreement for UNIPOL Polypropylene (PP) Process Technology with Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology LLC, a wholly owned Subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company. The plant with 400 kilo tonne per annum capacity is expected to start production from 2015. The plant will be located in Hongdong City in the Shanxi Province, China.

With the least complex PP process technologies available and low investment costs, Dow’s UNIPOL PP Process Technology positions polypropylene manufacturers to meet and exceed increasing demand for high quality polypropylene.

“The UNIPOL PP Process, Shanxi Coking’s customer will benefit from the ability to produce polypropylene products that are lighter and cleaner. Shanxi Coking, along with all UNIPOL PP Technology licensees, benefit from Dow’s donor and catalyst expertise, long-term support and continuous technology investments,” said Tracy Cleckler, President, Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology LLC.
