DUSSELDORF, GERMANY: Henkel AG & Company in collaboration with Tetra Pak has developed a new hot melt adhesive. The new adhesive ensures a lower adhesive consumption and meets the high demands of food safety. Simultaneously, the adhesive can be applied in an even more efficient and reliable way.

Packaging by Tetra Pak for food and beverages are available in more than 175 countries around the world. With innovative packaging technologies the safety of the mainly liquid products is ensured. The high demands of food safety are already focused on during the production stage of the packaging. In order to guarantee safety a team of experts from Henkel collaborated with Tetra Pak and developed a tailor-made hot melt adhesive for attaching carton caps and straws as well as for the bonding of secondary packaging applications.

During a trial phase of about two months, the operating conditions of Tetra Pak were assessed and the adhesive solutions customized for use within the existing production plants. The innovative hot melt adhesive that now shows an improved adhesive power reduces adhesive consumption to 37 percent. In addition, there is also a reduction of maintenance costs and downtime periods of production processes.
