Hexion to build new analytical laboratory in US

STAFFORD, US: Hexion Inc (formerly known as Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc) said that it is building a new analytical laboratory at its technology & business center located in Stafford, US. The new facility will house the Stafford sites’ recently formed analytical & materials testing group.  The expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

The new laboratory will increase the size of the research and development (R&D) facilities at the site. The expansion will accommodate the growing needs for chromatography, spectroscopy, rheology, microscopy and materials characterization to support new product, process, and application development for Hexion’s epoxy phenolic and coating resins and forest products divisions.

Molecular characterization coupled with a keen understanding of structure-property relationships is a key enabler for the development of next generation materials for applications ranging from aerospace and automotive parts (composite matrix resins and coatings) to engineered wood (adhesives, binders, and wax emulsions) to wind turbine blades (infusion resins and bonding pastes). Manufacturing efficiency and product quality will also benefit from the expanded analytical capabilities.

“This new analytical laboratory at the Stafford site represents an important step in our continuing investment in R&D growth and product development,” said Jody Bevilaqua, executive VP & president, coating resins division, Hexion.

“This new state-of-the-art facility will provide expanded resources for our researchers for the epoxy specialties business as well as other Hexion divisions. The expansion will enable us to consolidate analytical instruments and add new capabilities to increase efficiency and capacity,” said Scott Bastian, business director epoxy specialties Americas, Hexion.
