India imposes anti-dumping duty on soda ash imports

NEW DELHI, US: The Indian Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on soda ash (disodium carbonate) imports from China, European Union, US, Iran, Pakistan, Kenya and Ukraine. This anti-dumping duty will last for five years. The petition seeking anti-dumping probe on soda ash imports from these seven countries was filed by Alkali Manufacturers Association of India.

The association had filed the petition on behalf of domestic industry– Nirma, Saurashtra Chemicals, Gujarat Heavy Chemicals and DCW Ltd. Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry in February, the Revenue Department has now imposed definitive anti-dumping duty that ranged from $2.38 per tonne to $38.79 a tonne depending on the producer and country of exports. While anti-dumping duty is recommended by the Designated Authority, this duty is imposed by the revenue department.
