Ineos Styrolution presents high-performance solutions for automotive industry
The new Novodur Ultra 4255 is introduced featuring high heat resistance, low temperature ductility and enhanced flowability.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY: Ineos Styrolution, the global leader in styrenics and a sub company of Ineos said that it will present its new Novodur Ultra 4255, the laser weldable-optimized version of the established Novodur HH-112 and its innovative composite StyLight.

Recently, Ineos Styrolution released one of its most interesting material innovations enhancing its dedicated portfolio of solutions for interior automotive applications. The new Novodur Ultra 4255 grade features high impact strength at room temperature as well as at low temperature, 100 percent ductility at -30 °C, high heat resistance and best-in-class flowability.

Complementary to exterior automotive applications, Ineos Styrolution developed an optimised laser weldable version of the Novodur HH-112 that offers high adhesion quality to other materials like PMMA. Furthermore, this tailored Novodur HH-112 is also reducing production costs. As design and aesthetics become more and more decisive for new car models, original equipment manufacturers are increasingly striving for a perfect surface when it comes to bonding two different materials.

Responding to another trend in the automotive industry, the increasing demand for lightweight parts, without compromising on aesthetics, safety and performance, Ineos Styrolution introduces its innovative thermoplastic composite StyLight.

Properties such as its lightweight, coupled with structural and dimensional stiffness and impact strength, make StyLight an ideal solution for automotive applications. StyLight production processes ensure highest quality and low cycle times, as complex parts can be produced in a hybrid production process:

The thermoplastic composite sheets made from StyLight can be thermoformed, back-injection-molded and decorated in just one processing step. At the same time, the lower shrinkage during the consolidation step of the styrenic copolymer matrix, based on a modified SAN, reduces the surface roughness or “waviness” significantly, and offers a superior surface quality. Possible applications include body panels, brake pedals, electronic device carriers, gear sticks, instrument panels, spoilers and sunroofs. Due to its innovative nature, the composite StyLight* also lends itself to R&D collaboration in completely new directions.

Furthermore, following exterior and interior automotive applications of INEOS Styrolution will be presented:

  • Dr Schneider folding table – made with Novodur H801
  • Continental instrument cluster – made with Novodur HH-112
  • Rear lamp housing – made with Novodur HH-112
  • Glove box and door extension part – both made with scratch resistant Novodur Ultra 4105
  • Inner seat part – made with chemical resistant Terblend N NM-19
  • Pillars – made with Luran S 778T and Novodur HH-106 G2
  • Side trims – made with Novodur P2MC
  • Roof spoiler – made with Novodur HH-106

“We expect the new Novodur Ultra 4255 to become a material of choice for car interiors, especially for applications like door panels, lower seat trims, centre and overhead consoles or glove box doors and frames,” said Christophe Ginss, automotive sales director EMEA at Ineos Styrolution.
