Jacobs Engineering awarded two contracts by Foskor in South Africa

PASADENA, US: Jacobs Engineering Group Inc has been awarded two contracts by Foskor (Pty) Limited to design and fabricate two final acid towers and one acid cooler for Foskor’s sulphuric acid plants at its Acid Division in Richards Bay, South Africa. Officials did not disclose the contract values.

Jacobs is designing the equipment and process for two final acid towers using Jacobs’ proprietary Chemetics alloy SARAMET. Jacobs is also designing and fabricating a proprietary anodically protected sulphuric acid cooler being manufactured at Jacobs’ facility in Pickering, Ontario, Canada; and managing local fabrication and site co-ordination from Jacob’ operations in South Africa.

“This project builds on a successful acid cooler replacement that Jacobs completed for Foskor in 2009. We look forward to many more opportunities to enhance Foskor’s competitive advantage through superior technical solutions,” said Andy Kremer, Group Vice President, Jacobs.

Foskor is a South African producer of phosphates and phosphoric acid supplying international markets. Foskor’s Acid Division manufactures sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid and phosphate-based granular fertilisers (MAP, MAPzn and DAP).
