Messer acquires gas business in Austria

Messer Austria, on 2nd May 2011, acquired the gas business of Sapio Gase GmbH. With this the company plans to consolidate its market position in Austria.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY: Messer Austria, the Austrian subsidiary of Messer, intends to consolidate its market position in Upper Austria through purchase of gas business of Sapio Gase GmbH. Sapio Gase business has a strong presence in the industrial sector. The transaction was completed on 2 May 2011.

“Through our takeover of Sapio Gase GmbH, we plan to strengthen our market position in Upper Austria, a region of considerable importance to the gas business. At the same time, this acquisition enables us to achieve a greater range of supply and a useful addition to our regional presence,” noted Michael Beck, Managing Director - Austria, Messer. With the takeover of Sapio Gase, among other things Messer acquires the customer base of some 1,400 customers for bottled gas, for the most part metal-processing operations and small commercial operations.
