MEXICO CITY, MEXICO: Mexichem has received clearance from the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) in the United States to complete the acquisition of 100 per cent of the PVC Specialty Resins assets of PolyOne. This clearance was granted without imposing any restrictions; furthermore, clearance was received by similar authorities in Germany. The integration of the operations of specialty PVC resins in the Mexichem’s Chlorine-Vinyl chain will begin once the acquisition is completed, following the satisfaction of the remaining closing conditions, which the parties expect to complete in the following weeks.
The acquisition is aligned to the strategy of vertical integration towards higher value added products. With this acquisition Mexichem will strengthen its competitive position in North America obtaining the benefits of both the Shale Gas and the strategic geographical position to become the sole producer of Specialty PVC resins with operations in North and South America.
“The margins and growth potential of these operations are part of the appeal of the acquisition and through synergies’ which are part of the objectives sought by Mexichem in the acquisition processes - the Chlorine-Vinyl Chain margin will be improved by this acquisition. Likewise, the complement of the product portfolio that the acquisition brings will enable us to further improve the service to our customers with ‘tailor made’ solutions positioning Mexichem in markets in which we weren’t participating,” said Carlos Manrique, Managing Director, Chlorine-Vinyl chain, Mexichem.
