The department informed that treatment plant operators will use loan for disinfection facilities.

MISSOURI, US: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded officials in Macon, $1.3 million low-interest loan to improve wastewater disinfection facilities at an existing treatment plant.

Officials will use the funds to construct and install an ultraviolet disinfection system and a canopy to house the disinfection components at the treatment facility site. The improvements will also include installing a generator and automatic transfer switch to allow continuous disinfection during power outages.

The fund is a joint effort between the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and the US Environmental Protection Agency and officials expect completion of the project in February of 2012. The department’s water protection programme will administer the loan funds.

“The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide financial savings,” said Sara Parker Pauley, Director, Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
