TOKYO, JAPAN: Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation will expand production facilities for olefin thermoplastic elastomer and adhesive polymer in China and North America to further accelerate global expansion of the performance polymers business. To be completed by May 2012, the China facility will see production capacity increase by 4,500t/yr. The North America facility capacity addition will be completed by November 2011 and from its current 9,200t/yr capacity will increase by 1,800t/yr.
Olefin thermoplastic elastomer is used mainly as a raw material for automotive components and adhesive polymer is used mainly as a raw material for food packaging and automotive components. Demand for these performance polymers is increasing in both China and North America. Responding to the growing demand, Mitsubishi is expanding its production, with a total investment of some ¥ 700 million. This allows Mitsubishi Chemical to establish a supply and sales network in China, in addition to Japan, Europe, and North America.
