Mitsui to expand breathable films capacity in Thailand

TOKYO, JAPAN: Mitsui Chemicals Inc said it is expanding its manufacturing facilities for breathable films at its wholly-owned Mitsui Hygiene Materials (Thailand) Co Ltd to meet the growing demand of non-wovens and breathable films for use in premium diapers throughout East and Southeast Asia.

One of the major products in the healthcare domain is hygienic materials. In line with relocation and overseas expansion of premium diaper manufacturers, the company aims to expand its business in performance-driven hygienic materials by enhancing supply capabilities throughout East and Southeast Asia, it said.

The group’s breathable film is widely recognized by manufacturers for its performance and printability, both important requirements for premium diapers, and as a result has shown healthy sales growth, said the company.

Inbound and export (mainly China) demand for Japan-made premium baby diapers has expanded rapidly. In addition, premium disposal diapers needs in Southeast Asia have grown significantly and the market boom is expected to continue, said Mitsui.
