Nippon Shokubai breaks ground on $200 mn acrylic acid plant

TOKYO, JAPAN: Nippon Shokubai Co Ltd’s subsidiary PT. Nippon Shokubai Indonesia held a ground-breaking ceremony for the new acrylic acid plant in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia. Acrylic acid, one of Nippon Shokubai’s core businesses, shows steady growth of demand as a key material for superabsorbent polymers and acrylates etc.

With this new plant at NSI, Nippon Shokubai group’s global AA production capacity will be as below table, which enables to maintain even more stable supply-ability.

After the completion, the production capacity will be increased from140,000 tonne per year to 240,000 tonne per year.

Nippon said that the total amount of investment is approx. $200 million. The plant is expected to start commercial operation by November 2021.
