TOKYO, JAPAN: Nippon Shokubai announced that it has decided to give Nisshoku Chemical Industry an approval to invest for the expansion of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) plant at Zhangjiagang, China. The plan is to build a new SAP plant with the capacity of 30,000 metric tonne per year in addition to the current capacity of 30,000 metric tonne. This project makes no influence on the business results of the current fiscal year ending on 31 March 2012. Commercial production is expected to begin in July 2014.
To satisfy the demand in the emerging market which shows remarkable growth, Nippon Shokubai decided that Nippon Shokubai Indonesia, a subsidiary in Indonesia (NSI) would newly build a 90,000 metric tonne SAP plant with 80,000 metric tonne of acrylic acid, a main raw material for SAP, both plants are scheduled to start up in August 2013.
