Oath to save water this world water day

SINGAPORE: Water is an important natural resource. It is one of the most basic requirements of life. Most people around the globe are devoid of this basic need. Many people are not accessible to clean drinking water. Water scarcity has become a major problem at global level affecting quality of life, the environment, industry, and the economies of developing nations. Water use has been growing at more than twice the rate of population increase in the last century, and, although there is no global water scarcity as such, an increasing number of regions are chronically short of water.

The causes for water scarcity are natural and man-made. The natural means of water scarcity is climate change and drought, where as human contributions are population growth, polluting the resources, massive urbanization, increasing construction, depleting of natural resources, lack of implementation of effective water management systems, etc.

If the present scenario continues, then we will have no clean water in future. We have to take steps to reduce water scarcity, so that it does not occur in future. Some of the methods to reduce water scarcity are- desalinization technology implementation, this technology will filter salt water through reverse osmosis; efficient household water management systems; creating awareness among people that every single drop of water is precious; international water sharing; reduce wastage of water; implementing techniques like rain water harvesting; etc.

On this occasion of world water day, let us all oath to save every single drop of water.
