Orica gets approval for expansion of Kooragang Island site

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA: An application to modify expansion plans at Orica’s Kooragang Island site has been approved, paving the way for the project to commence later in the year. Orica’s expansion project is one component of an overall Kooragang Island capital works programme to improve the site’s safety and environmental performance. According to James Bonnor, General Manager for Australia/Asia, Orica, the site’s expansion will contribute to the prosperity of the Hunter region.

“The project will directly support local industry, grow local manufacturing and create construction and manufacturing jobs in Newcastle. The expansion of Kooragang Island will include investment in improving site infrastructure as the foundation for long-term operations. One of the key outcomes of the expansion project will be to improve the safety of operations at Kooragang Island through targeted risk reduction initiatives. The changes are designed to enhance the safe operation of the site and to improve internal traffic management,” said Bonnor.
