Petrochemicals – Opportunities galore, take your pick

For a minute, close your eyes and think of different things. Say you think of colours, perfumes, soaps, cosmetics, trendy & fashionable clothes, designer cars, flashy gadgets etc. These are just a few of the products where petrochemicals have become an integral part of the manufacturing process. One cannot imagine the world without petrochemicals. Moreover, the demand for petrochemical and its intermediates is growing day by day.

According to the McKinsey analysis, demand for petrochemical intermediates, such as acrylic acid, acetic acid and propylene oxide, is likely to grow with the growth of the Indian economy. However, if necessary steps are not taken immediately then, a shortfall of over 25 million tonne a year could emerge by 2025.

In this area, Indian companies have the scope of getting onto the road and establishing a long-term business plan.

Further, amidst the rising concerns regarding depleting oil resources, a much naturally occurring option oleochemicals is rising as a potential fuel alternative in the industry.
