Resirene, Foster to seek medical market for styrene acrylic polymers

TLAXCALA, MEXICO/ PUTNAM, US: Resirene, the largest polystyrene producer in Mexico and Foster Corporation have formed a partnership to pursue the medical market for Resirene’s CET SMMA styrene-acrylic copolymers.

Foster will serve as an exclusive distributor for the medical industry in US and Canada territory and also leverage its manufacturing capabilities within its core compounding business to provide custom SMMA functionality, including colours, impact modifiers and other speciality enhancements.

Resirene CET SMMA combines the ease of processing of styrene polymers with the crystal clarity of straight acrylic. It also provides an ideal balance of rigidity and surface characteristics, while offering a high degree of chemical resistance, crack resistance and temperature performance not available with styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Several biocompatible CET SMMA grades are available for healthcare applications that meet the necessary biocompatibility requirements.

“We have already seen some successes in the medical segment for our CET SMMA material. With Foster’s expertise in this segment, we are confident that this collaboration will help to accelerate our growth here,” said Moises Romero Manig, market development & business intelligence manager at Resirene.

“Our current customers and prospects serving the medical segment are always looking for new transparent material options that can help them to meet the performance requirements and regulatory approvals while contributing to cost-savings initiatives. We’re proud to bring Resirene’s CET SMMA into our portfolio of solutions,” added Larry Johnson, executive vice president for Foster.
