Corrosion issues in automotive industry

The Indian automotive industry is growing manifolds. In the next five years, there is an estimate of having 5 million new vehicles on the road. With high end vehicles, there is a demand for longer life shelf of the vehicle. Hence the demand for corrosion resistance in vehicles is increasing. Corrosion technology for automotive industry has new challenges with rising pollution levels, multi-metal technology, new environmental norms, advent of electric vehicle systems, etc. These factors play a major role in the making of next generation high end corrosion protection solutions.

Trends in corrosion solutions

Some of the trends that Kansai Nerolac Paints in work on are - Weather durable electrocoat which is the basic coat needed for vehicle protection and Hydrophobic clear coat which repels water and keeps the vehicle dry. These are two ways that can minimize the effect of corrosion. Apart from this, there is a demand for coatings to be of low thickness and light weighted and yet perform better. This helps in the overall weight reduction of the vehicle.

Corrosion Technology Forum 2018

The event on corrosion was concise yet had every element needed- user industries with challenging problems, experts with solutions and a platform where these problems and solutions were discussed openly and accepted by the audience.
