Shin-Etsu operations in Japan remain suspended


TOKYO, JAPAN: Shin-Etsu Group’s reported that there has been little change in their situation since March 22nd. All of operations at both Shin-Etsu Chemical Kashima Plant (Kamisu, Ibaraki Pref) and Shin-Etsu Handotai Shirakawa Plant (Nishigo Village, Fukushima Pref) have been wholly halted. Although the aftershocks have been frequently occurring, the company is implementing necessary inspections at the plants putting the utmost priority on safety.


Regarding the situation of Shin-Etsu Handotai Shirakawa Plant, the company is unclear as to how long it will take to restore the damages. As for Shin-Etsu Chemical Kashima Plant, some damages of the production facilities and equipments have been observed. In addition, at the Kashima industrial complex there were heavy damages such as cut off of electric power and water supply and it may take time to re-start the supply of the raw materials, informed the company.
