Technip bags coke calcination unit contract in Abu Dhabi, UAE

PARIS, FRANCE/ABU DHABI, UAE: Technip was awarded a significant contract comprising technology, engineering services and supply of core equipment for Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company – Takreer’s new coke calcination unit. This new unit is part of the carbon black & delayed coker project being implemented adjacent to Takreer’s existing Ruwais refinery located in the United Arab Emirates.

The unit will consist of two trains and is designed to process 700,000 tonne per annum superior-quality anode green petroleum coke through 2 kilns. The processed coke will be used as anode coke for Abu Dhabi’s growing aluminium industry. Technip will support the EPC contractor, Samsung Engineering Co Ltd, until the completion of the performance testing of the new unit.

“This contract follows the successful completion of the process design package for this new coke calcination unit for Takreer last year. The award reinforces the world-leading position of the rotary kiln and cooler technologies representing about 70 per cent of the world’s total calcined coke production capacity. We are proud for being entrusted to design and deliver our 7th reference plant to our customers,” said Mesut Sahin, Managing Director, Technip Germany.
