Ball State University was established in 1965. It is a public coeducational research university located in Muncie, Indiana, USA. Ball State is ranked as a research university, high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Individual programs are accredited by various regional and national organizations. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department of chemistry provides a lot of hands-on training. As an incoming student, you will be able to do full-fledged research with the professors. About 80 percent of the undergraduate chemistry majors have participated in research. The chemistry department is ranked by the American Chemical Society (ACS) as one of the largest producer of ACS-accredited chemistry majors in the state of Indiana. It is also rank in the top 10 percent in the nation in the number of graduating ACS-accredited chemistry majors. The Department of chemistry offers very successful graduate programs. The master of science degree program offered is a research based program where students have the opportunity to learn advanced experimental chemistry and use modern instrumentation while working on a unique research problem. The program's emphasis is on the student's development as a scientist. The department also has a new PhD in Environmental Sciences program.
